Angel of the House

[Angel Ryder]

Angel managed to convince Becca to join her at her house for lunch with the kids in tow. It didn't hurt that little Ethan and Trinity were pretty whiny when there was talk of the two having lunch separately. So to keep the peace, Angel had the whole lot beamed to her beach house. Already the smells of freshly slow roasting ham could be smelled as they walked in.

"It's not Spam... although that's entirely native for us Hawaiians. Blame the Army, it's actually entered our culture. I prefer a real ham, pig farmers on the north end of the island can't keep up with them. I made friends with one of the butchers, I get as much ham and bacon as I want." Angel said as she pulled on an apron over her swimsuit. "Had it slow roasting for hours, so it should be plenty ready. I've got fingerling potatoes and some mashed potatoes with poi for the kids." she pulled her hair back into a ponytail as she pulled out the plates. "

"Mommy... can Ethan sit next to me?" Trinity asked in her little whispery voice that was hardly a whisper.

"Of course." Angel said with a smile and kissed her forehead. "Why don't you kids wash up before we eat." she looked at Becca. "So much better now that they talk."

Rebecca smirked, "Yes, and no. They are easier yes, but I miss holding Ethan in my arms." A tear appeared in the corner of her eye. "I missed so much... I destroyed a good marriage. I had to be in the thick of it. I had to make a difference. Being at home, on the ranch. It wasn't good enough. I was selfish, don't be like me."

"After being on ice for decades... I know what you mean. I could have entirely missed my daughter growing up." Angel said softly. "Nathan kind of doesn't like when I go on missions without him because of it. That and we had to clone him after he was nearly killed." she winced. "God this is such a messed up life. Becca, I think we both need to step back for a little while. I don't think forever is feasible, we're not wired that way. We see something happening, we want to go and be involved. That WAS my class motto 'Make a Difference'. Took that to heart." she said as she artfully arranged the food on the plates and took a sip of wine. "Maybe all this happened for a reason. Nathan and I... we've been fighting about the whole Trinity thing. We keep going back and forth on what to do, he's afraid if we go up against Dominus, one or both of us won't make it back. And yet she's still our daughter and clearly we have a bond. Those 'phantom' wings on my back... they're still there. I can only imagine how painful that was for her, if I could feel and have physical pain there all the way here. Which also means... I can't let anything happen to little Trini."

She'd ignored the ijulna for so long that she'd almost forgotten the feeling. Her vision faded, and she was transported to an alien world. It was raining. A buzz of klidens and the sound they made when two came together fillled the air. Ferengi ran in fear.

A naked female bared her pointed teeth, as she stopped to look back and hiss. She pushed her children behind her protectively.

A circle of black robed Ajem surrounded two women. One had a familiar blaze of sorrell, and the other a brunette, almost black. They each clutched a bundle of cloth protectively. Tiny baby cries of fear emanated from the bundles. The women held their klidens in a defensive posture.


Rebecca felll to the floor hard, as the incomplete vision faded. Her hands grasped the sides of her head. Her greatest ijulna ability had always been her greatest curse. "No! No!" She repeated over and over.

"Becca!" Angel rushed to her side. "What happened? What did you see?"

[Rebecca Talon]

Her eyes shot open, and she inhaled sharply, as she was snapped back into reality. She did nothing at first, her eyes darting around the ceiling as she got her bearings. "Your daughter.... she's on Ferenginar and she's in trouble."

Angel nearly dropped the plate she was holding, but kept it together. "Alright... sooo... in trouble right now or will be in trouble?" she glanced around the kitchen. "Iris!" she slid on a pair of glasses and brought up a holographic display. "I've got... two old Section 31 safehouses. One that Trinity would probably have known about, we were going to stay the night if we didn't get business done as fast as we did. The things I've done for this government..." she rolled her eyes. "Let's see... it's too far for us to get there, even if we wanted. Buuuut..." she brought up another list. "Oh oh this is good." she snapped her fingers. "T'Kir's ex boyfriend lives there now. Sniper. Special Ops. After all, we're not hover shuttle parents. So what exactly did you see?"

[Rebecca Talon]

"It's hard to say," she said climbing to her feet. Seconds, minutes, hours, never more than a day, but always a premonition."

She went to the computer terminal and and entered commands, "I think I know the safe house you are talking about. Nicholas told me about it once. Your mom, established it." Rebecca sat back breathing a sigh of relief. "It's 0300 at that location, and it was clearly day. If I had to guess about 0900."

Rebecca turned to Angel, "She was circled by eight to ten Ajem'dasis acolytes. Apparently she has Kat... Uh... Katherine Donovan or Raven or whatever she is calling herself with her. They were both armed with klidens... red klidens. Do you suppose she has fallen to the dark side in Bellatrix's tender care? And the most peculiar thing is they had babies with them."

"Or it's whatever she could take when they escaped." Angel theorized. "So about five hours before all hell breaks loose, since if they're surrounded by 0900 chances are they were being followed for a little while at that point." she tapped her chin. "I'll reach out the Commander. Meanwhile..." she placed the plate in front of her. "Eat something, you're getting too thin."

"I am not!" She exclaimed. She was exhausted. The visions usually were, and she had let her stamina go over the past six months.

She picked at the plate not really eating for a few minutes, only offering the barest to the conversation. Setting her fork down she folded her arms. "You have a really strong connection with Trinity don't you? What I mean is that I couldn't figure out how I got that vision like that. It doesn't usually work that way you know? I think you were a conduit. I somehow tapped into your connection and... well all this ijulna and mysticism is not very scientific. It's hard to quantify into scientific fact."
